There has been a fire in Cornell Court, Saffron Walden this morning (Friday).
Essex Police have this afternoon confirmed a woman in her 60s sadly died at the scene.
They said: "Enquiries are being carried out to establish the cause of the fire but at this stage we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances."
Firefighters from Saffron Walden, Newport and Wethersfield were called to the flats on Smallbridge Road, Saffron Walden, shortly after 10am.
They found a fire in a second floor flat.
Firefighters led residents to safety.
The blaze was out by 11.50am.
