Rotary in Saffron Walden announced the winners of its young photographer competition at an award presentation evening.
The theme for the national competition was 'the beauty of architecture', and photographers were awarded in two categories: intermediate (age 11-13) and senior (age 14-17).
Winners were Joseph Waters and Damien Doneic respectively, both students at Joyce Frankland Academy.
Awards were presented at Saffron Walden Golf Club after an informal dinner with parents and teachers.
The two judges, local professional photographers Celia Bartlett and Roger King, complimented Joseph on his choice of subject, and added: "Trinity College, reflected in a puddle of water, showed the keen eye of the photographer and is an excellent winner and Damien’s windmill looks as if it is standing sentinel over the whole area."
They also praised the two highly commended entries from Violet Wrigley and Catrin Savage.

All four students received Amazon gift vouchers and certificates, with Joe and Damien now progressing to the East Anglia district final in April.
Rotarian Tony Robertson, project leader for the competition, said: "The competition aims to give participants the chance to express themselves through photography, interpret the competition’s annual brief in an imaginative way and experiment with digital and traditional methods."
