Trees which were planted as part of a community woodland project in Saffron Walden have been removed.
The trees were planted in Lime Avenue, off Little Walden Road in 2021, but died following last year's extreme weather.
A spokesperson for Saffron Walden Town Council said: "Due to the extreme heat and drought last summer, the vast majority of trees planted the previous winter at Lime Avenue unfortunately failed, despite best efforts to keep them going.

"Following consultation with Essex Wildlife Trust the dead trees have been removed and the area will be managed as a wild flower meadow, which is considered a more appropriate use of the land."
The trees were planted by volunteers, in an effort organised by Cllr Dave McLellan.
