Steam and vintage vehicle show the Saffron Walden Crank Up is returning to Carver Barracks - formerly RAF Debden - later this month.

The Crank Up will take place on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, and will feature steam engines of all sizes, vintage tractors, cars and vehicles from bygone days, including military vehicles.

Vintage vehicle enthusiast Paul Engelmann initially organised the show from his Shire Hill home in Saffron Walden, and it is now run by a group of volunteers on behalf of the East Anglian Traction Engine Society.

Alongside the vehicle show, there will also be a traditional funfair, featuring a set of galloping horses built in 1893 and a newly decorated chair-o-plane ride that originated in Germany.

Visitors can enjoy a wide range of trade and craft stalls, as well as stationery engines and working farm equipment, refreshments and a beer tent. 

The event will commemorate local firm Taylor Bros. of Wimbish, who were involved in road repairs for many years, along with wartime construction work at RAF Debden and other East Anglian airfields.

Admissions costs £7 for adults, with accompanied children under 16 going free. Gates are open from 10am to 5am.
