Saffron Walden Rotary is holding another collection for Ukraine, and is calling for donations of dried and canned food, toiletries and health supplies.

The collection will take place on Saturday, April 22 from 9am until 1pm, on Saffron Walden Common next to the car park.

Rotary are accepting donations of dry food such as pasta, rice, tomato paste, oats and canned meat, fish, vegetables and fruit.

Hygiene and medical items are needed too - including toiletries for adults, children and babies, cleaning materials, washing powders, gels and wipes, shampoo, soap and sanitary towels, nappies, pads, scissors and antibacterial gel, as well as medical items such as paracetomol, aspirin and bandages.

Cash donations to assist in transportation costs are also accepted, and these can be made on the day at the Rotary collection point in cash or by credit card.

Previous collections by Rotary have been delivered by Felsted-based charity UK-Aid to refugee camps and distribution centres in Moldova and Ukraine.

UK-Aid is a small charity that boxes up the items and arranges for them to be sent to their destination in 40ft lorries, where they are distributed to women and children.

Rotarian project leader John Tapscott said "Given the tremendous support received from local people in past, we are hopeful that we will get a good response again for those living in such hardship."
