Four former Uttlesford district councillors have received honours in recognition of their distinguished public service.
Christina Cant and Elizabeth Godwin were made Honorary Alderwomen and David Morson was made an Honorary Alderman.
They were awarded certificates at a council meeting on Tuesday, July 18. Former councillor Jackie Cheetham was also made an Honorary Alderwoman but was unable to attend the meeting.
Christina was elected to the council in 1997 and was a member until 2015. During that time, she held several high-profile roles including chair of the development control committee from 2004 to 2007 and chair of the council in 2012 to 2013.
Jackie served as a district councillor for 24 years, having been elected in 1991. She took on a variety of roles within the authority, including chair of the Stansted Airport advisory panel from 2012 to 2015.
From 1995 to 2001 Jackie was chair of the planning and development committee, from 2007 to 2012 she was chair of the development control committee and from 2012 to 2015 she was chair of the planning committee.
Jackie also held the role of deputy leader of the council from 2007 to 2014.

Elizabeth was elected in 2000 and was a member until 2015. She was chair of the council from 2004 to 2005, vice-chair of the development control committee from 2007 to 2011 and chair of the scrutiny committee from 2011 to 2015.
Finally, David was elected in 1995 and served for 20 years. He was deputy leader from 2005 to 2007 and held a number of positions, including chair of the scrutiny committee from 2001 to 2003.
Cllr Geof Driscoll, Chair of the Council for 2023/24, said: "I’m delighted that we can celebrate and thank Christina, Jackie, Elizabeth and David for their tireless public service – their dedication and commitment is a great example to us all.
"They all made significant contributions to the council and the community over many years, and they thoroughly deserve this honour."
Their honorary status means Christina, Jackie, Elizabeth and David can attend and take part in future civic occasions, similar to previous mayors.
