Saffron Walden Rotary Club is holding a collection for the people of Ukraine next month.

The collection will take place at The Common, Saffron Walden from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, February 3.

As the war continues, families are left in need of everyday food items, including pasta, rice and gluten free items, toiletries and warm clothing, cleaning materials, cooking utensils, torches, batteries and crockery.

In addition, cash donations will go towards the purchase of generators and to assist in transportation costs.

These can be made in cash or by credit card at the Rotary collection point on the day.

Rotarian organiser John Tapscott said: "The aid which the Rotary Club has been collecting over the last year is delivered to the Felsted based charity UK-Aid who in turn takes it to distribution centres in Moldova and Ukraine for the benefit of refugee and dispossessed families in those countries.

"Many hundreds of families have been helped, although many more are still in need.

"The collections we have had in the past have received tremendous support from local people and those from surrounding villages so it is hoped that we will get a good response again for those living in such hardship."
