Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra is celebrating cinema history with an afternoon of film music.

The 'Music from the Silver Screen' concert takes place at Saffron Hall at 3pm on Sunday, February 11.

Tickets cost between £21 and £18 for adults over 25, £11 for ages 18 to 25, and £6 for under-18s.

Musicians will perform themes from classic movies such as Gone with the Wind and Ben Hur, along with more recent films like How to Train Your Dragon and Skyfall.

The programme opens with the epic Ben Hur score by Miklos Rózsa, whose overture for El Cid also introduces the second half of the concert.

Both halves of the concert feature scores by John Williams, who closes the first act with music from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the second act with E.T and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

The first half also includes scores from Elmer Bernstein, Max Steiner and John Barry for The Magnificent SevenGone with the Wind and Dances with Wolves, as well as Adele's theme song for Skyfall and Lara's Theme from Doctor Zhivago by Maurice Jarre.

The second half features music from How to Train Your Dragon by John Powell, before transporting the audience to deep space with the main theme from Apollo 13 and music from Aliens, both by James Horner.

Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra (SWSO) is formed of both amateur and professional musicians based in and around Saffron Walden.

SWSO run by the Saffron Walden Orchestral Society, which also runs Saffron Walden Children's Orchestra.

The children's orchestra runs courses for young beginners during the school holidays.

The orchestral society's conductor is Richard Hull, who has played for and conducted both the Bedford Town Band and the City of Cambridge Brass Band, and is also a pianist and accompanist.

Following two successful concerts with the Uttlesford Orchestra (now SWSO) during 2007/2008, Richard was appointed their principal conductor from the start of the2008/2009 season.
