Children from Saffron Walden, Dunmow and surrounding areas dressed up in an array of fabulous costumes to celebrate World Book Day.
For a pyjama-themed day at Thaxted Primary School, eight-year-olds Bea Briant and Sophie Stephenson shared a double hoodie.
Other costumes included the BFG, Draco Malfoy, the Queen of Hearts and Matilda.
Six-year-old Violet from Helena Romanes School dressed as Wednesday Addams.
Mum Lauren said: "She has Cousin It on her shoulder to keep her company. Hopefully they don't get up to any mischief."
Seven-year-old Ava Sieczko, who attends Dunmow St Mary's, dressed as Matilda from her favourite musical, which she "sings and dances too all the time".
World Book Day takes place every year on the first Thursday in March as a national celebration of books and reading.
Every child in full-time education receives a voucher to spend on books, with schools across the UK taking part in special activities to celebrate.
