Ahead of the Olympics, a Stansted-based care home is holding its own sports day with a retro twist.

As part of The Big Care UK Sports Day - which features more than 130 Care UK facilities across the UK - Mountfitchet House will offer residents the chance to win gold medals in a selection of games and activities.

Guests are invited to enjoy a typical summer barbecue courtesy of the home’s head chef, alongside music from Chris Sullivan.

Mayor of Dunmow Cllr Peter Childs is also expected to be in attendance.

Attendees are encouraged to don their best 1980s-themed activewear for the event on Friday, July 26, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

Joanna Duke, home manager at Mountfitchet House, said: "We’re so excited to host our very own sports tournament, which promises to be a memorable day for everyone who comes along.

"Here at Mountfitchet House, we know just how important physical activity is, so we always encourage residents to stay active – and hosting our very own sports day is the perfect way to do just that.

"We have some very competitive and skilled residents who have been warming up in preparation for some community competition."
