Electric vehicles are now available to hire as part of the Saffron Walden Clean Air Project.
The two EV cars are available through the Saffron Walden Car Club, in the Common car park and the Uttlesford District Council car park on London Road.
Additional EV charging points will also be available for members of the public.
The scheme, which is managed by Co Wheels, is part of the town-wide clean air project and aims to offer a low-cost, sustainable alternative to car ownership - giving people the option to only pay for a car when they need it.
Annie, who works in Uttlesford District Council's housing options team, has been using the electric vehicles for work and personal use - with separate accounts set up for both.
She said: "Owning a car is not essential for me as I live and work locally, so the car share scheme provides freedom from the responsibility of car ownership.
"I really enjoy driving the EV cars – they are new and automatic, and I don’t have the daily running and maintenance costs, tax or insurance to contend with, and no issues with parking at home either.
"I would encourage people to give it a go – they could save money, help the environment and enjoy a cost-effective way to have use of a car when needed."
The EV cars can be booked for as little as 30 minutes at a time, and members only pay for the hire time and distance driven.
There is currently a limited-time offer discount for anyone who signs up to use the vehicles.
