Two free family-friendly days will be held at Saffron Walden's Market Square during August.
The first event on Friday, August 9 will feature a treasure hunt at 10.30am and 11.30am, alongside the cast of Treasure Island at Saffron Hall.
Other activities include face painting, storytelling, and visits from the Buffy Bus and the Essex Mobile Library bus.
Saffron Walden Town Council will also run another round of activities on Friday, August 30.
Families will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the emergency services and take part in dressing up, colouring and more.
The Market Square will be closed for both events from 7am until 4pm, as well as adjoining roads Market Place, Market Hill, Market Street, Butchers Row and King Street.
A Saffron Walden Town Council explained the reason behind the reason behind the restrictions, saying: "This is to provide free family activities and café style seating, allowing for a relaxed continental feel to this beautiful space.
