A new plant shop is opening in Saffron Walden next week and promises to offer a "haven for plant lovers".

The Plant Pantry, which opens on Friday, October 4 at 13 George Street, was created by former nurse Danielle Harding.

Danielle worked for the NHS for 35 years before being made redundant, and decided to take the opportunity to pursue her lifelong passion for plants - which she traces back to her childhood in Borneo.

"Those early experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature."

The Plant Pantry features a wide array of houseplants with a strong emphasis on sustainability, sourcing peat-free plants from the UK wherever possible.

"We want our customers to feel good about their choices,” Danielle said.

"It’s important to us that our plants are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly."

The shop also offers repotting services to ensure plants can continue to thrive in their new home, as well as workshops like 'Terrarium and Tipple' where participants can create their own mini-ecosystems while enjoying a drink and a chat.

A unique feature of The Plant Pantry is the 'Plant Hospital' - where Danielle draws on her nursing background to care for struggling plants.

"I see the Plant Hospital as a way to continue my nursing skills in a different form," Danielle said.

"Plants, like people, sometimes just need a little extra attention. And if a plant has reached the end of its life, we guide it into the circle of life through composting."
