Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert of "exciting and dynamic" music at Saffron Hall in December.
The concert will take place at 3pm on Sunday, December 1, and will feature music by Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov.
Tickets are available from the Saffron Hall box office on 0845 548 7650, can be bought online at www.saffronhall.com or from the Saffron Walden Tourist Information Centre in Market Street.
Adult tickets for over-25s are either £21 or £18, tickets for 18 to 25-year-olds are £11 and tickets for under-18s are £6.
The orchestra will begin the concert with Sergei Prokofiev's March from 'The Love for Three Oranges', described as a "short yet brilliantly energetic" piece from his comic opera.
The March is famous for its catchy, exuberant theme, and has become one of Prokofiev's most popular works.
Soloist Alex Redington, a founding member of the critically acclaimed Doric String Quartet, will join the orchestra to close the first half of the concert with Dmitri Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No.1.
The concerto was written during a period of intense political pressure in Stalinist Russia. Its four movements range from the haunting opening 'Nocturne', to the intensely driven 'Burlesque' finale, offering a mix of "lyricism, anguish and fierce energy".
Concluding the concert will be Sergei Rachmaninov's Symphony No.3, described as a "powerful and deeply emotional" work composed during Rachmaninov's later years in exile.
A spokesperson for Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra said: "Although less frequently performed than his earlier symphonies, the Third is filled with sweeping melodies, nostalgic longing, and vibrant orchestration, blending Rachmaninov's lush romanticism with his more modern harmonic language.
"It promises to provide a majestic and stirring close to the afternoon."
