The annual inter village competition at Saffron Walden Golf Club this year attracted nearly 100 golfers representing surrounding villages and several Walden areas.
Newport carried off the trophy, with Jeremy White, Carol Jones, Stephanie and Colin McDonald scoring 112 points.
They didn’t get off to a great start, but towards the end of the back nine the 14th hole yielded 10 points and the 17th 11 as three players managed par scores for three points apiece.
With two scores to count on the first six holes, Stephanie started the front nine holes one under gross, scoring 12 points. With their worst holes still producing four points, a great team effort secured a well deserved win.
In second place were the Thaxted team of Paul Linwood, John Swan, Steven Lillywhite and Ossie Esterhuizen, ahead of Ben and Vicky Rutherford, Sue Gunter and Michael Barker for Saffron Walden West.
