Saffron Walden Town took four points from their two matches this week to move up to eighth in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

The Bloods followed up a 2-0 win over Felixstowe and Walton United on Saturday by sharing four goals away at Thetford Town on Tuesday evening.

It took just three minutes for new signing Malaki Toussaint to become an instant hero at Caton’s Lane at the weekend.

Toussaint was recently signed from Basildon United and after coming on as a substitute with 10 minutes left on Saturday showed great awareness to cap his debut off with a goal against the side second in the table.

It was not the most difficult goal he will ever score - he took advantage of a defensive error and walked the ball into the back of the net - but his effort certainly made sure of all three points for the Bloods.

Walden’s other latest signing, and local man, Harry O’Malley opened up his account for the Bloods with an excellent goal from a set piece.

He skilfully flicked Craig Calver’s cross with his heel, spinning the ball past Spurling and into the back of the net to put his side ahead before Toussaint added his side’s second.

Saffron Walden didn’t have it all of their own way, however, and goalkeeper Sam Soutar had to put in a man of the match performance to keep a clean sheet for his side while Spike Bell was also called upon to make an excellent block on the line to deny Felixstowe a goal.

Back in action on Tuesday evening Town faced a trip to Thetford, a decent outfit sitting fifth in the league table.

Saffron went into the break a goal to the good thanks to Ryan Fleming’s looping header.

The same player then saw red but Saffron scored a second with Graeme Turner lobbing the Thetford goalkeeper from the edge of the area after running on to a James Crane long ball.

However Thetford made the most of having an extra man and managed to claw their way back into the game late in the second half with two goals to deny Town the victory.
