A golfer from Saffron Walden has won his second county title this year and the sixth of his career.
Richard Southall from Saffron Walden Golf Club won the Wheeler Salver, beating Kevin Diss of Gog Magog Golf Club on the latter's own club course.
It proved to be an exciting match as Southall first went one-up through the 1st with a four and after the next three holes were halved, he doubled his lead on the par four 5th.
Both players shot birdies at the par five 8th hole before Diss managed a par on the short 9th to halve the gap at the turn.
Another par 4 at the 10th by Diss brought the match back to all square but Southall came back on the 11th, hitting a pin-seeking iron and holing out for a birdie to go back to one-up.
On the 14th both hit excellent birdies and Southall reached the 15th one-up.
An over-hit putt on the 15th and missed return meant Diss with a four made the score all-square again.
On the 16th a deft chip by Southall to a foot meant a par to a Diss's bogey gave him the lead once more and he closed out the 2&1 win on the 17th, a slight blocked tee shot by Diss not enough to match Southall's par.
