FOLLOWING his popular visit earlier this year, the director and screenwriter Ol Parker is to revisit Saffron Screen on Saturday (November 17) to answer questions about his latest film, Now is Good.

Parker last visited the independent cinema in March for a Q&A about The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for which he wrote the script.

Parker grew up in Radwinter, attended Dame Bradbury’s School and later read English at Clare College, Cambridge. “Ol is such an entertaining speaker and we look forward to hearing his stories from the making of this sensitively-made film,” said Rebecca del Tufo, chairman of Saffron Screen.

Now is Good, which Parker directed, is a moving but down-to earth portrayal of a teenager facing her mortality. Diagnosed with terminal leukaemia, 17 year-old Tessa is determined to live life to the full and writes a ‘bucket list’ of things she wants to do before she dies, not all of which are legal!

Boasting a brilliantly prickly performance from Dakota Fanning, with top-notch support from Paddy Considine and Olivia Williams as her parents, this British film is both funny and touching. Despite its subject matter, it neatly sidesteps potential melodrama, presenting us instead with a totally believable teenage heroine.

The Q&A with Ol Parker will follow the screening on Saturday at 8pm. The film will be screened again on Sunday at 5pm. Tickets for both screenings are available and may be purchased from the cinema box office, Saffron Walden Tourist Information Centre, or online at saffronscreen.com
